According to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2015, Lingnan was ranked between 9 and 16 in Asia in the subject of philosophy, after its score in the subject went up from last year’s 41.9 to a current score of 54.1.  This ranking recognizes the achievements of the University’s philosophy scholars.

Lingnan’s Department of Philosophy is one of the top departments in Asia in the field of analytic philosophy, with strengths in aesthetics, epistemology, ethics, metaphysics, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of science.

Apart from its recognition in the QS rankings, the Department of Philosophy also performed well in the UGC 2014 Research Assessment Exercise.  Forthy-five percent of its research outputs scored in the categories of 4-star (“world-leading”) or 3-star (“internationally excellent”). This was a score just three points below the top local institution and above the sector-average of 40%.
