Exciting moves under Erasmus + International Credit Mobility

To echo the Erasmus + International Credit Mobility programme funded by the European Union, Lingnan worked alongside our European partners to find funds to encourage mobility for students, academics and administrative staff. Some of the successful projects with our partner institutions are listed below.

Koc University

Professor Michael Çalıkuşu, Senior Lecturer, Graduate School of Business, Koc University visited Lingnan for a week in January 2018 to share with our undergraduate and postgraduate students in financial analysis and mergershis academic knowledge and professional experience he gained from leading global companies in the food, beverage and household cleaning sectors.

Ms Phoebe Leung, Assistant Librarian of Fong Sum Wood Library, received a grant to participate in the International Library Staff Week, Academic Libraries: Hubs without Borders organised by Koc University in Istanbul, Turkey in March 2018. She treasured this exceptional opportunity to network with library professionals from Turkey and other parts of the world, to exchange ideas in numerous sessions on library services and to participate in the Turkish National Library Week Program.

In the area of professional training and development, Ms Zeynep Ezgi Erdem and Ms Sema Sadetinova, Exchange Programs (Outgoing) and Partnerships Assistant Specialists, Koc University, visited Lingnan in June 2018 to exchange ideas and knowledge about student exchange programmes and partnership development with the administrative staff from relevant departments.

University of Rijeka

Professor Sasa Drezgic, Associate Professor, Faculty of Economics, University of Rijeka in Croatia paid a 2-week visit to Lingnan in late January 2018 to coach our undergraduate and postgraduate students in banking, finance, taxation and public expenditure. His expertise lies in the field of fiscal policy, local government finance, public investments and infrastructure finance, and economic development issues. His research is strengthened by his experience serving as the Deputy Minister of Finance of the Republic of Croatia. This transfer of knowledge brought significant benefits to our students and helped them to gain a better understanding of the public finance domain.

Cracow University of Economics

Professor Gregory William Whitten, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, participated in the International Week organised by Cracow University of Economics in Poland in May 2018. He discussed the theme of “Cross-Continental Cooperation”.

Metropolia University of Applied Sciences

With support from the Erasmus + International Credit Mobility programme, Ms Terhi Topi, International Coordinator, Business School, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, visited Lingnan in October 2017. In addition to sharing ideas on student exchange programmes with our administrative staff, she offered prospective outgoing exchange students useful tips about studying in Finland. On our International Day 2017, she encouraged the Finnish students to run a national booth that shared Finnish food and culture with Lingnan students.

Ms Angela Ng, Senior Programmes Manager, and Ms Fiona Lee, Programmes Manager, the Office of Global Education, participated in the International Staff Week for Non-teaching Staff organised by Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. The themes were “Digitalisation” in 2017 and “Towards Quality in Mobility” in 2018. In addition to exploring the basics of Finnish language and culture, they shared with the participants the ideas of best practices and discussed their experience in incoming and outgoing student mobility, partnership cooperation and internationalisation at home in various workshops.

In addition to grants for staff mobility, grants were offered to support the studies of four Lingnan outgoing exchange students at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki, Finland in 2017-18. The combined administrative staff and student mobility efforts successfully consolidated this partnership.

Karlshochschule International University

Four Lingnan students and two Karlshochschule International University students received Erasmus + scholarships to support their semester-long exchange studies in Germany and Hong Kong, respectively, in 2016-17 and 2017-18. This greatly encouraged the student traffic between the two institutions.
