Lingnan Arts Festival 2012 presents an extravagant banquet of cultural experiences to students, staff and members of the public.

Dr Stephen Chow Chun-kay shared his experience in entrepreneurship and cultural development at a University Assembly.

Council member Mrs Loretta Shuen discussed her mentorship experiences at “Tuesdays with Mentors” dinner.

Mr Roger Yuen and 38 outstanding alumni talked about their work experiences at the “Lingather Programme 2012 – Alumni Advising Night”.

US Consul General Mr Stephen Young and Consulate Cultural Unit Chief Ms Naeema Whatley visited Lingnan on 6 March.

Dr Lau Chi-pang led the “Tour Around Tuen Mun” on 17 March, taking alumni down a memory lane of Lingnan University.

Lingnan University held the annual Green Festival on 21-23 March with a theme of ecological conservation.

Research and academic activities

Prof Avinash Dixit, Distinguished Adjunct Professor of Economics, used the theoretical framework of economics to deconstruct “bureaucracy” at his Distinguished Public Lecture on 5 March.

Travel photo-writer Ms Celia Cheng spoke on “Stories Along Journeys” after her trip to Norway.

Prof Mette Hjort dissected the interest of documentary films at her inaugural lecture on 8 March 2012.

Prof Chen Kuan-hsing examined “Chen Yingzhen’s Third World – Homelandless Mainlanders Living under the Division System”.

Writer-in-residence Mr Liu Ka-shiang gave two public seminars entitled “My Observations and Writings of the Nature in Hong Kong” and “Recent Rail Travels inTaiwan” in March.

Mr Yip Fai was invited by the The Centre for Humanities Research of Lingnan University to speak on a three-session seminar series on “Hong Kong Local Colour Writing”.

Awards and people

Hall A has become the overall champion in the President’s Cup 2011/12 after winning the table-tennis, soccer and women’s basketball tournaments.

Aizhamal Marat, a Kyrgyzstan student, has set up a social webpage in Russian to promote Lingnan.

Two Lingnan business students came second in the “KPMG Business Administration Paper contest 2011”.

Publications

Videos on several Service-Learning programmes in the first semester of 2011/12 have been uploaded to Youtube.
