Lingnan has become a member of The Global Liberal Arts Alliance, a coalition of liberal arts colleges and universities from around the world.

This summer, 30 Lingnan students will join an eight-week Mainland Summer Internship Programme to Shanghai sponsored by the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce.

About 550 graduating students, teachers, staff and guests spent a joyous evening together at the Grand Ballroom of L’hotel Nina et Convention Centre on 21 May.

Lingnan’s Department of Visual Studies has organised an Artist-in-Residence Exhibition “Embracing the Threshold” from 27 April to 14 May.

On 27 April, Dr Simon Kwok Siu-ming shared with Lingnan alumni the legendary development of his cosmetic kingdom.

Prof Ma Yue of the Department of Economics and Dr Sophia Law of the Department of Visual Studies have been interviewed by Metro Broadcast on undergraduate programmes.

Research and academic activities

Literary scholars and writers from Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland China attended a symposium on “Hong Kong literature in Taiwan” on 4 May.

More than 10 scholars from local universities discussed the cultural transformation from mainland China to Hong Kong during the 1950s at a conference on 8 May.

The Centre for Humanities Research (CHR) and Department of Chinese co-organised the Fifth International Young Scholars Conference on Chinese Literature on 11-12 May.

An inaugural conference on “The Education of the Filmmaker: Views from Around the World” was organised by the newly created Centre for Cinema Studies on 25-27 May.

Awards and people

The Installation and 1st Induction Ceremony of the Lingnan University Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma was held on 21 May, during which Council Chairman Mr Bernard Chan was made Chapter Honoree and 30 outstanding business students were inducted into the Chapter.

Department of English Writer-in-residence Jennifer Wong has found her stay at Lingnan joyful and applauded the keen interest of Lingnan students in learning poetry.

Publications

The 28th volume of “Cultural Studies@Lingnan” is now published.
