Following the success in the past four years, Lingnan University and the Hong Kong Professionals & Senior Executives Association continue to join hands to organise the fifth Leadership Mentoring Programme this year.

Lingnan University received a generous donation of HK$10 million from the Lam Kei On Memorial Trust to establish the “Mr Lam Man Tsan Memorial Fund”.

Lingnan University received a donation of HK$1 million from the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation to establish the “Sino Group/Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation Scholarship Programme”.

Lingnan University presented ZeShan Foundation Scholarships to 20 students with outstanding academic performance on 29 April to support their Mainland China or overseas exchange for one semester in the 2015/16 academic year.

The “ILP Cafe” was set up by the Integrated Learning Programme (ILP) Team of Lingnan University on 31 March and 1 April to collect opinions from students towards different aspects of ILP.

In his distinguished public lecture on 21 April, Prof Avinash Dixit demonstrated how business community institutions could help fight corruption, using Hong Kong as an example.

In a press conference held on 17 April, Lingnan University’s Centre for Public Policy Studies released the results of the Children’s Happiness Index Survey, showing that the 2014 overall Children’s Happiness Index dropped noticeably to 6.74 from 7.23 in 2013.

The film culture in the 1960s was examined in the seminar titled “The Chinese Student Weekly in 1960s” organised by the Centre for Humanities Research of Lingnan University on 13 April.

The “Virtual Reality” Documentary Series was jointly presented by the Core Curriculum and General Education Office, Centre for Cinema Studies and CNEX Foundation on 9 and 16 April at the campus.  It attracted not only staff and students of Lingnan but also students from local secondary schools.

Prof Christopher Megone of the University of Leeds gave a seminar at Lingnan University on 13 April to reflect on the Research Excellence Framework 2014 in the UK, and in particular whether the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences are unlikely disciplines for impact or knowledge transfer.

Awards and people

At the Awards Presentation Ceremony 2015 held on 13 April, a total of 627 awards and scholarships totaling over HK$12 million were presented to 430 students in recognition of their outstanding academic and personal achievements.

Lingnan University’s Putonghua Debate Team was crowned the champion in the final match of the Joint-Universities Debate Competition held on 25 April.

Lingnan University’s Karatedo Team and Rowing Team have achieved excellent results and obtained awards at recent open tournaments.

Lingnan University has won a Gold Award for the third consecutive year in the Web Accessibility Recognition Scheme.

For Henry Chiu, the three-year Visual Studies programme at Lingnan was an enlightening experience, gradually transforming him from an underperforming freshman to a PhD candidate.

The “Strive For Success” Tuen Mun District Primary Students Award Scheme organised by the Tuen Mun District Youth Programme Committee has been recognised as one of the 18 outstanding youth activities in the “2014/15 Outstanding Youth Activity Commendation Scheme” co-organised by the Home Affairs Bureau and Commission on Youth. One of the major activities of the “Strive For Success” scheme is the campus visit entitled “A Day at University for Primary School Students” co-organised by the Student Services Centre of Lingnan University.


A new book entitled Red God: Wei Baqun and his peasant revolution in Southern China, 1894 – 1932 written by Prof Han Xiaorong, Head of Department of History, explores the life of Wei Baqun and his peasant revolution in Southern China.

Centre for Advancement of Outcomes-Based Education’s Newsletter No. 3 is now published.

Lingnan Gardeners’ Newsletter No. 5 is now published.

The 5th Issue of the Office of Service-Learning Faculty Newsletter for the 2014/15 academic year is now published.
