As Convenor of Heads of Universities Committee (HUCOM) 2014-15, President Leonard K Cheng led a delegation of 16 senior administrators from nine tertiary institutions in Hong Kong to visit the Yangtze River Delta on 9-14 May 2015.

The “Shanghai-Hong Kong Future Leaders (Lingnan Elites) Internship Programme 2015”, co-organised by Lingnan University and the Hongkong-Shanghai Economic Development Association, will arrange 36 Lingnan students to take up summer internship at prominent corporations in Shanghai for seven weeks from May to July.

Over 350 graduating students, teachers, staff and guests of Lingnan attended the Dinner for Graduating Students at Kowloon Shangri-La Hotel on 22 May.

The Lingnan Education Organization (LEO) Ambassadors Appointment Ceremony cum Dinner was held at Lingnan Club on 26 May, with Dr Peter Wong Pak-heung, Chairman of LEO and President Leonard K Cheng as the officiating guests. They also presented certificates of appointment to the student ambassadors.

Thirty-four Lingnan students are sponsored by the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) through The Mainland Summer Internship Programme 2015 to work as interns in Shanghai for eight weeks during the summer vacation.

Research and academic activities

An international conference titled “Hong Kong and the World through Leung Ping Kwan” was held by the Centre for Humanities Research and the Faculty of Arts of Lingnan University from 21 to 23 May on campus.

Students of the newly launched Master of Science Programme in Marketing and International Business (MScMIB) shared findings of their consulting projects with representatives of business enterprises.

The Centre for the Advancement of Outcomes-Based Education invited distinguished professors John Biggs and Catherine Tang to facilitate a workshop entitled “Further Issues in Implementing and Fine-Tuning Outcomes-based Approaches to Teaching and Learning” on 12 May.

An international conference entitled “Among Empires: the British Empire in Global Imperial Context”, organised by the Department of History of Lingnan University, was held from 27 to 29 May on campus.

Awards and people

Lingnan University Chinese Debate Team has won the first runner-up in the Joint-Universities Debate Competition 2015 co-organised by Radio Television Hong Kong and The Hong Kong Federation of Students.

Lingnan University organised a presentation ceremony for the inaugural “Lingnan University Faculty and Student Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Outcomes-Based Education 2014-15” on 12 May.

A total 29 of students from the Faculty of Business were inducted as lifetime Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) members for their outstanding academic achievements.
