Lingnan University welcomed new students at the start of the new academic year with a series of activities during July and August.
William Shi Hangyuan, an MPhil graduate in Business, has been offered a full scholarship by New York University Stern School of Business to study his PhD degree in Business Administration (Accounting).
Prof Ada Wong, Assistant Professor of the Department of Marketing & International Business, is one of the recipients of this year’s Teaching Excellence Awards for her contributions to the teaching of social marketing at Lingnan University.
With the love and care from her teachers, families and friends, Tang Hiu-yan, who has been suffering from muscular dystrophy since childhood and facing numerous challenges in life, is about to start her third year of Social Sciences undergraduate study in Lingnan University, majoring in Psychology.
Lingnan University has renewed it agreements of cooperation with University of Asia and the Pacific in the Philippines, and Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Finland in July.
Faculty of Business of Lingnan University organised the “2016 HUBE School of Finance Summer Camp” from 25 to 30 July, which provided a one-week programme for a group of 40 undergraduate students from the School of Finance of the Hubei University of Economics (HUBE).
The Career Team of Student Services Centre has devoted enormous efforts in providing summer internship opportunities for students. In this summer a total of 325 students have been placed to various companies or organisations for internships with sponsorship by SSC and donors.
With the sponsorship from the Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation, the 9th Jackie Chan Challenge Cup Hong Kong Universities Rowing Championships was successfully held on 13 and 14 August at the Shatin Rowing Centre. Over 260 rowers among 8 universities participated in 13 events.
Jin Yong: From Hong Kong to the World is a new book edited by Mr Matthew Cheng Ching-hang, Research Assistant of the Centre for Humanities Research of Lingnan University. It collects milestone research papers that explore the many issues as expressed in Jin Yong's fiction, including cultural identity, nationalistic ideals, gender relationships, the crumbling patriarchy, etc.
The University community mourned the sad loss of Prof Michael Arthur Firth, Hong Kong Economic Journal Chair Professor of Finance in the Department of Finance and Insurance, who passed away on 24 August.
