More than 100 Lingnan students will receive sponsorships to work as interns at 38 prominent corporations, government agencies and museums in Beijing and Shanghai this summer. Thirty-two of them are sponsored by the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) through the Mainland Summer Internship Programme 2014 to work as interns in Shanghai for more than eight weeks. They will be able to experience the culture and lifestyle of mainland China, familiarise themselves with the operations of the intern organisations, and thus to prepare for their career development in the future.

A launch ceremony was held on 2 May with CGCC Chairman Dr Charles Yeung, Education Funding Committee President Mr Ian Chan Yau-nam and Chairman Mr Stephen Tan, Secretary for Education Mr Eddie Ng, Permanent Secretary for Education Mrs Cherrie Tse, and Director of Youth Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR Mr Chen Lin as the officiating guests. More than 200 students and representatives of all local universities attended the event.

The CGCC Mainland Summer Internship Programme 2014 has lined up 13 prominent companies, namely Sun Hung Kai Business Services (Shanghai) Company Limited, GL events China Company Limited, SKF (China) Company Limited, Ascott Property Management (Shanghai) Company Limited, Shanghai Li Xing Real Estate Development Company Limited of Lai Fung Holdings (Shanghai), Shanghai Huxin Real Estate Development Company Limited, and Creative Technology Audio Visual Equipment Trading (Shanghai) Company Limited. In addition, Dufry (Shanghai) Commercial Company Limited and HM Clipper Management Limited are participating in the programme for the first time. Internship opportunities are offered in a wide range of departments and functions, such as exhibition, human resources, public relations, finance, sales and marketing, market research, lease and promotion, property development and research, operations and sales support. Students will not only work as interns in these companies but also attend sharing sessions by the senior management and join study tours.
