A total of 58 attendees of the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) 2013 Conference, representing 37 universities worldwide, visited Lingnan University on 15 March. The Office of Mainland and International Programmes (OMIP) organised an “Open House” for them.

In his opening remarks, Prof Jesús Seade, Vice President of Lingnan University, extended his warmest welcome to the visitors, including delegates from 21 Lingnan’s partner institutions. He opined that the theme of this year’s APAIE Conference, “An Ascendant Asia-Pacific: International Higher Education in the 21st Century”, timely highlighted the importance of international collaboration of universities as the world is getting more interconnected and globalised than ever. He gave an overview of Lingnan’s internationally-oriented liberal arts education and hoped that the in-depth information-sharing and networking among the participating institutions would lead to further collaboration.

The visitors could learn more about Lingnan through panel displays on the University’s student exchange, service-learning as well as administration and academic departments, portraits of Lingnan’s wartime campus in Taitsuen, Shaoguan, Guangdong province during the Second Sino-Japanese War by Mr Szeto Wai and an exhibition of artworks by Visual Studies students. The OMIP also arranged the visitors to meet with incoming exchange students and a campus tour for them.
