A total of 42 scholars from the Greater China and US offered new insights on Confucian classics and Chinese poetic arts in the papers presented on 7-8 March on Lingnan campus.

This is the second conference held by Lingnan’s Department of Chinese in conjunction with the re-launch of the Lingnan Journal. In his opening remarks, President Leonard K Cheng said, “Renowned scholars gather on Lingnan campus to discuss Confucian classics and Chinese poetic arts, bringing new insights and perspectives, and exalting the radiance of our ancient civilisation. Its coincidence with the University’s 125th anniversary adds extra value to this conference.”

The conference comprised Confucian classics and Chinese poetic arts, during which 48 papers were presented, offering new insights and directions for studies in these two areas. Selected papers from this conference are scheduled to be published in the Lingnan Journal. In 2009, the Department of Chinese and the Institute of Chinese Literature and Philosophy, Academia Sinica pioneered to organise the conference on Confucian Classics in Hong Kong. The conference outcomes were published early this year and will be published by Wanjuanlou, Taiwan, demonstrating a great step forward made in classical studies by Lingnan’s Department of Chinese.
