Held on the lawn near the Southern Hostels on 12 March, the second annual “Music on the Grass Concert” was organised by four students: Year 3 Visual Studies students Ho Chui-yi and Li Shuk-ping; Year 1 Social Sciences student Or Wai-yi and Year 3 Chinese student Ng Wing-yee.
The organisers hoped that the concert would encourage Lingnanians to make better use of the lawn and strengthen connections with fellow students. “We shouldn’t be confined by restrictions and traditions and let this beautiful piece of public space go unnoticed. Apart from being a backdrop for photos, it can be used for a concert to enjoy music and freedom. This was an activity initiated by Lingnanians for Lingnanians. We also talked about making handicrafts, green living, travelling experience and our own stories on that day,” they said.
The concert featured a variety of music performances such as classical music, guitar recital, pop music and band show, as well as a song dedication session. Handicrafts made by students were also available for sale. The organisers thanked the Student Services Centre for offering great support in venue preparation, logistics and promotion, and for giving them freedom to bring more possibilities to the concert this year.
