On 23 April, Lingnan’s Core Curriculum and General Education Office (CCGEO) also organised a math and music seminar by Prof David Kung, visiting scholar from St Mary’s College of Maryland this semester.

A mathematician and an amateur violinist, Prof Kung spoke on “Musical Equations: Connections between Math and Music”, drawing on examples from everyday life. He made lively illustrations on various regimes of harmonic analysis, and partnered with students to demonstrate some scientific phenomena as well as playing some beautiful musical pieces. The seminar concluded with a wonderful finale performance by Prof Kung on an extract of Bach’s Chaconne.
