The University’s orientation camps this summer received a number of awards in Friends of the Earth’s Green! O Camp Project.

Orientation Camp of The Jockey Club New Hall (H), with green living messages and energy-saving measures promoted to new students, received the “Gold Certificate of Award”.  All participants were encouraged to bring their own water bottles and meal containers, and the “water battle” staged at the beach using sea water were some green initiatives adopted by the Camp.  On the other hand, Orientation Camp of The Jockey Club Hall (E) with green living advocated in the “Dialogue with the Warden’s Office” talk and recycled materials used in games, and the New Student Orientation organized by the Student Services Centre were both awarded “Silver Certificate of Award”.

To advocate green living attitudes, Student Hostel Associations and student societies were highly encouraged to engage in the Green! O Camp Project by taking green actions and introducing innovative green elements in their orientation camps.  Student Services Centre also took green actions such as distribution of green souvenirs, posting up of green living tips at student hostels, recycling food leftovers, plastic boxes and tin cans in New Student Orientation.
