Following a series of open talks and workshops, the Writer-in-residence Programme 2012 organised by the Department of English came to a fruitful close with a reading session “The Joy of Writing” held at the Fong Sum Wood Library on 10 May. During the session, excerpts of short stories and poems were read out by Writer-in-residence Jennifer Wong, Department Head Prof Douglas Robinson and students.

“I was amazed by the talents and hard work of Lingnan students, and found their keen interest in learning poetry most encouraging. It was indeed a joyful teaching experience,” said Jennifer, who supervised her students to complete their own poetry portfolios before the end of the semester.

A young poet who currently resides in London, Jennifer taught an elective course entitled “Contemporary Poetry as Text and Experience” and conducted various talks and writing workshops during her stay at Lingnan between January and May 2012. Her poetry collections include Summer Cicadas published in 2006 and The Foreign to be published in 2014.
