Dr Rebecca Suter, a well-acclaimed scholar of Japanese studies, was invited by the Centre for Humanities Research to speak on “Glocalising Murakami Haruki” on 13 April.
At the seminar, Dr Suter showcased Murakami’s translations of American literature as well as the translations of Murakami’s works in the US, which make him an important cultural mediator between Japan and the US.
Dr Suter is currently the Senior Lecturer of Japanese Studies at the University of Sydney and the Japan Foundation Visiting Researcher at Keio University, Tokyo. Her research interest focuses on modern Japanese literature and popular culture from a cross-cultural perspective.
