The “Lingather Programme 2015: Alumni Career Advising Night”, organised by the Student Services Centre and the Department of Management, was held on 4 March at Sin Cho Ming Function Hall. Some 160 students took the opportunity to learn about current developments of the job market and employers’ expectations from over 40 alumni who graduated between 1985 and 2014 and worked in 17 different career fields.
In her welcoming remark, Prof Grace Lau Yin-ping, Associate Vice-President (Student Affairs) thanked all the alumni guests for spending the night with students. She encouraged students to seek advice from alumni actively on career development and better prepare for future careers.
Distinguished Alumnus Mr Patrick Pau, First Vice President of Fubon Bank (Hong Kong) Limited, delivered a talk on “How to equip yourself and enhance employability in the competitive job market”. He shared his insights and tips on job hunting skills including how to market yourself to employers, get prepared for interviews as well as answering challenging questions. He reminded students not to care about working from the bottom up and immediate returns since learning opportunities and future prospects are the most important.
Students and alumni chatted in a warm and friendly atmosphere over the dinner. Students’ feedback on the programme was very positive and they expressed gratitude to the alumni for sharing with them their invaluable work experiences and job hunting strategies.
