A total of 204 Lingnan students participated in “Lingather Programme 2014: Alumni Career Advising Night”, organised by the Student Services Centre and the Department of Management, at Sin Cho Ming Function Hall on 5 March. The participants seized the opportunity to learn about the recent trends in the job market from 43 alumni who graduated from 1988 to 2013 and are now working in 17 professions.

In his welcoming speech, President Leonard K Cheng thanked all the alumni for their time to help the students. He encouraged the students to actively seek information on career development and set clear goals for their future. Associate Vice President (Student Affairs) Prof Lee Hung-kai also reminded that “opportunities are given to those who are prepared”.

Distinguished Alumna Ms Isabella Kwok, Director of Deutsche Securities Asia Limited, delivered a speech on “How to equip yourself and enhance employability in the highly competitive job market”. She encouraged the students to engage in teamwork by joining school teams or other clubs and societies because employers tend to look for candidates who are team players. “Every bit of experience can give you a job,” she said. By sharing her own story of career development, Ms Kwok also reminded the students to stay positive and persistent when facing challenges at the workplace. The programme was well received by the students, who were grateful to the alumni for sharing their invaluable working experience and advice on job hunting strategies.
