In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Master of Cultural Studies Programme, a series of events including lectures, seminars, a cocktail reception and a party was held from May to August 2013. Teachers, students and alumni were invited to join together to review the past development of the programme and look forward to the future.

The celebration was kicked off with a seminar on “Privately Funded Education and Master Programmes on the Periphery of the System” cum cocktail reception held on 18 May. The seminar reviewed the traditions of privately funded education and explored the future of self-funded university programmes on the periphery of the education system, as conflicts between Hong Kong and mainland China are intensifying and the income gap is widening. On 31 August, educators devoted to non-mainstream education were invited to share their teaching experiences and recent challenges at the seminar on “Education on Body, Emotion and Artistry”.  The speakers came from a wide range of non-mainstream fields including agro-ecosystem, heritage tour in community, music and drama, as well as devotional dance. The seminar was followed by the 10th anniversary party on the same day.

Other celebration activities included cultural seminars, group reading, roundtable sharing and a visit to Mashipo Village in Fanling to put cultural theories into practice.
