The “Strive For Success” Tuen Mun District Primary Students Award Scheme organised by the Tuen Mun District Youth Programme Committee has been recognised as one of the 18 outstanding youth activities in the “2014/15 Outstanding Youth Activity Commendation Scheme” co-organised by the Home Affairs Bureau and Commission on Youth. One of the major activities of the “Strive For Success” scheme is the campus visit entitled “A Day at University for Primary School Students” co-organised by the Student Services Centre of Lingnan University. Since its inception in 2011, the award scheme has aimed to encourage primary school students in Tuen Mun to work hard to accomplish their goals and establish a positive value system as well as life direction.
This year, 140 students from 16 primary schools in Tuen Mun spent a day at Lingnan on 12 February to acquire experience of being a university student. They sat in a lecture on “Corporate Social Responsibility”, participated in class discussion with Lingnan students, had lunch in the student canteen and toured the campus. In the past few years, participants were arranged to attend different lectures including “Chinese Etymology” delivered by Prof Lee Hung-kai of the Department of Chinese, “Bildungsroman Process of the Money King” by Prof Grace Lau Yin-ping of the Department of Chinese and “Introduction to Business” by Ms Moureen Tang Mo-lin of the Department of Management, to learn more about the unique features of our undergraduate programmes.
