Alumna Brenda Hong, an outstanding local artist, shared her knowledge of modern ink painting with Lingnan staff and students at a seminar on 16 September.

Brenda began with an introduction of ink painting history from post-war period to the present, with reference of well-known painters such as Zao Wouki and Wucius Wong. She then explained the painting techniques of master Liu Kuo-sung, whose personal pictorial formulae was marked by his creative techniques of using steeped ink as well as using ink and colour on special paper. “An artist should not follow precedents. S/he should develop his/her own artistic style after years and years of practice,” said Brenda.

Between 19 August and 30 September, the “Tipsy Lotus – A Brenda Hong Modern Ink Painting Solo Exhibition” was held at the Fong Sum Wood Library, showcasing 25 works of Brenda on the theme of “lotus pond”. At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, she presented a special piece of work to Lingnan to express the University’s nurture and care for students as well as her love for the University.
