Lingnan University Alumni Volunteer Team, together with 60 members of local and ethnic minority families who participated in the “Celebrate Diwali with us!” campaign, celebrated the traditional Indian festival Diwali on 2 November at the Kowloon City Children & Family Services Centre of the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children. The event let ethnic minority families celebrate Diwali even though they are living in Hong Kong, and strengthen the linkage between local and ethnic minority families in order to achieve a harmonious community.

Through the introduction by the Centre’s instructor, volunteers and participants learned more about Diwali. They also learned how to make traditional crafts such as painting Rangoli and decorating Diya, and enjoyed traditional cuisine of ethnic minorities. The cheerful atmosphere was brought to a climax when volunteers and participants joined in the traditional Indian dance together. Through a series of games and programmes, volunteers and participants established trust and friendship and had a great time that day.
