Entitled “Creativity Engage!”, an exhibition of artwork by secondary students with special education needs was held at the Leung Fong Oi Wan Art Gallery of Lingnan University from 27 May to 1 June.

Partnering with the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals’ Tuen Mun Integrated Services Centre, Department of Visual Studies Associate Professor Dr Sophia Law led a group of art facilitators and students of the Department in this biannual art workshop, which provided an opportunity for junior secondary students with special learning needs to express themselves creatively.

Through artistic activities such as painting, printmaking, fabric dyeing, scriptwriting and acting, the 25 secondary students ventured into an exciting world of colour and movement. Under the guidance of the art facilitators and Lingnan visual studies students, the participants learned to express their ideas and feelings, which helped them build greater self-confidence. “By giving these kids the opportunity to exhibit their artistic talents, we hope parents, teachers and society can understand them from a new perspective,” said Dr Law.
