The Government of the Macau Special Administrative Region convened a press conference to announce the public consultation of the “Old-age Security Mechanics” on 30 July, in which Prof Alfred Chan Cheung-ming, Chair Professor of Social Gerontology, Department of Sociology and Social Policy, and Director of Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies (APIAS), was invited to introduce the research background of the policy framework and related results.

Commissioned by the Macau Government, APIAS serves as the advisory partner of the “Old-age Security Mechanics” study to review international elderly policies and measures, and advise on the formation of policy framework taking into account of the circumstances of Macau societies.

The Old-age Security Mechanics Framework and 2016-2025 Ten-year Action Plan (draft) have been published while a 45-day public hearing has been conducted from 30 July to 12 September. Prof Chan, together with officers from multiple departments, have attended all seven consultation meetings and responded to public questions.
