The Asian Development Bank (ADB)’s new Chief Economist Dr Changyong Rhee presented the organisation’s economic forecast for 2011 at Lingnan University on 7 April 2011.

The ADB publishes an annual economic report Asian Development Outlook to provide a comprehensive analysis of macroeconomic and development issues of its developing member countries. The theme of Asian Development Outlook 2011 and the focus of Dr Rhee’s presentation was the ongoing growth in south-south economic linkages, with particular attention to the changing economic centre of gravity from the north to the south. Dr Rhee examined the opportunities that this shift has opened up, particularly in trade and investment, for developing countries in Asia.

The presentation was followed by a panel discussion chaired by Prof Jesús Seade (Lingnan University) and including four leading academic and industry experts: Dr Alicia García-Herrero (BBVA’s Chief Economist for Emerging Markets), Dr Guonan Ma (BIS Senior Economist for Asia and the Pacific); Prof Yue Ma (Lingnan University) and Prof Larry Qiu (The University of Hong Kong ).
