Lingnan University held the Mainland Summer Internship Programmes 2012 Award Presentation Ceremony on 28 January to honour those participants with outstanding performance, followed by a briefing session on the 2013 Programme.
Last summer, 50 Lingnan students were selected to work as interns in 24 prominent companies and organisations in Shanghai and Beijing under “The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce Mainland Summer Internship Programme” and the “Lingnan University Mainland Summer Internship Programme” respectively. The eight-week internship enabled participants to learn more about the culture and operations of enterprises in mainland China and get better prepared for their future careers.
Year-3 Visual Studies student Water Kwong, who is interested in painting and design, was given an opportunity to participate in the creative process for GAP, a famous American fashion brand, during his internship at Y & R (Beijing) Advertising Co Ltd Shanghai Branch. After working in the advertising agency, Water aspires to establish his own design brand.
During his internship at Y & R (Beijing) Advertising Co Ltd (Wunderman), Kent Fung was assigned to liaise with clients from various provinces in China for his knowledge in marketing, as well as initiative to identify clients’ needs and proposal development. He had his confidence boosted and Putonghua greatly improved after participating in the internship programme. Kent was presented with the outstanding intern award of Mainland Summer Internship Programmes 2012.
The 24 companies and organisations offering internship opportunities last year included Tihuasic (Beijing) Certified Public Accountants, World Affairs Press, Agenda Shanghai, Y & R (Beijing) Advertising Co Ltd Shanghai Branch (Wunderman), Shanghai Li Xing Real Estate Development Company Limited and Eu Yan Sang China.
