A beautiful selection of 21 small-to-medium-sized ballpoint pen paintings produced by Hong Kong-based Nepalese artist Mr Dipendra Rai was on display from 4 to 13 March during “The Magic of Ballpoint Pen Art” exhibition at the Fong Sum Wood Library of Lingnan University.

At the opening reception held on 7 March, officiating guests including Mr Mahesh Prasad Dahal, Consul General of Nepal in Hong Kong, Prof Shalendra Sharma, Acting Vice-President and Prof Lisa Leung Yuk-ming, Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Committee of Lingnan University pointed out that the exhibition would not only constitute a window into Nepal’s rich culture heritage for Lingnan staff and students, but also help promote ethnic and cultural diversity on campus.

Mr Rai is famous for his unique artwork on portraiture and Nepalese scenery drawn with multi-colour ballpoint pens. Each of his fine-tipped line, shape and colour forms part of an exquisite image. Apart from Hong Kong, he has held exhibitions in his motherland Nepal and overseas.

The art exhibition was part of the diversified programme of Lingnan’s Equal Opportunities Awareness Week. Mr Rai was invited to give a guided tour of the paintings at the opening reception, and hosted a sharing session on his innovative art and interesting life journey in Hong Kong on 10 March.
