The Centre for Humanities Research (CHR) of Lingnan University co-organised a seminar on 1 June 2011 in memory of Hai Sin, an important local literary writer who had recently passed away, to discuss his works and share memories of his long career in Hong Kong.

Jointly hosted with the local Hong Kong Literary magazine, the seminar was attended by friends of Hai Sin, leading local writers and CHR members including Prof Leung Ping-kwan, Dr Mary Wong Shuk-han, Ms Amanda Hsu Yuk-kwan and Mr Matthew Cheng Ching-hang.

Born as Cheng Sun-hung, Hai Sin was a voluminous writer of more than 60 books throughout his literary career of some sixty years. Known as “the people’s writer”, Hai Sin was recognised for his passionate and unadorned portrayals of grassroot lives in Hong Kong.
