The Centre for Humanities Research (CHR) at Lingnan University launched the first book on foreign translation of Hong Kong literature, A Bibliography of Hong Kong Literature in Foreign Languages, at an international conference “Translating Hong Kong” on 19 June 2011. Compiled by Ms Amanda Hsu of the CHR, the book features a catalogue of foreign translations of Hong Kong literary works in 15 languages. These include not only English, French, Japanese and Korean, but also languages less commonly seen in Hong Kong such as Arabic, Greek and Yugoslavian.

Hosted by the CHR, the full-day international conference also reviewed published translations of Hong Kong drama and poetry, and discussed why such translations are important. Guest speakers and participants included Prof Leung Ping-kwan, Dr Mary Wong Shuk-han and Ms Amanda Hsu from Lingnan, local poets and writers, as well as translation professors from other local universities.
