“Friends, we will never forget this particular moment when we have to say goodbye…” – the touching lyrics of the theme song for the Dinner for Graduating Students 2012 captured succinctly the feelings of the participants. The dinner, held on 21 May at the Grand Ballroom of L’hotel Nina et Convention Centre, came to a climax at the end when all guests sang the song together on the stage.
As a tradition of the University, the dinner has entered into its 14th year, providing a precious chance for the guests and teachers to celebrate with students their graduation. About 550 graduating students, teachers, staff and guests joined the dinner this year.
The event started with the singing of the National Anthem and University Anthem, followed by remarks by Council Chairman Mr Bernard Chan and Acting President Prof Jesús Seade. Mr Chan called on graduating students to be courageous in trying new things to find the right direction for themselves.
This year, for the first time, the University invited the programme-based student societies to produce videos to share with fellow students their memorable experiences in the past three years. Mr Ronald Law, graduate of 2007, and three Hall C students gave singing performances to show their support for the graduating students.
