The first LU Service Day, co-organised by five student societies and the Student Services Centre, was held in the afternoon of 13 September. The event has gathered around 140 Lingnan students who served the needy in six different service projects. The five organising student societies include University YMCA (Lingnan University), Golden Z Club, Social Service Association, Lingnan University Wofoo Leaders’ Network and Service-Learning Student Association.

Some of the students served the less privileged in society, such as ethnic minorities, the elderly and people with intellectual disabilities, while some worked on two green projects entitled “LU Rock Cleaning Angels” and “Greeneration – introducing green living to children”.

The LU Service Day was initiated by a student who presented the idea of organising a signature service programme to President Leonard K Cheng last year. At the kick-off ceremony, student representative Wong Sin-yan said, “We aim at spreading the message of Education for Service to Lingnanians. Today is only the start and we shall continue to serve the community in the future.”
