Centre for Humanities Research held the “Hong Kong Literature and Culture of the 1950s Seminar Series (16): Hong Kong Photography of the 1950s” on 19 March. Well-acclaimed photographer Ms Wong Wo-bik and curator Ms Sylvia Ng were invited to speak on Hong Kong photography of the 1950s.
Ms Sylvia Ng introduced the organisations, activities and magazines of photography from the 1940s to 1960s. She also explained the details in the works of the photographers of the 1950s. What amazed the audience was that those photographers were able to edit the film to some extent similar to using Photoshop today. Ms Wong Wo-bik spoke on a well-respected photographer Yau Leung (1941-1997), who photographed Hong Kong streetscapes and earned international reputation in the 1990s.
