Well-acclaimed writer Mr Yip Fai was invited by Lingnan University’s Centre for Humanities Research to speak on a three-session seminar series on “Hong Kong Local Colour Writing” in March.

During his seminar on “Excursion and Urban Life – From Local Chronicles to Naturography”, Mr Yip gave an overview of relevant literature from 1940s to 1980s and introduced the neglected nature writings of G A C Herklots, G S P Heywood, Ye Lingfeng, Ng Bar-ling, Lee Chun-yi and Chan Yat-fung.

Besides, Mr Yip provided a the oretical introduction to the studies of travel writing and regional writing, and offered helpful suggestions on Hong Kong local colour writing during his seminars on “Travel and Regional Memory – Speaking from our Own Travellers” and “Travel and the Pathos of Things – From Disappearance of Things to Literary Writing”.
