Lingnan University’s Karate Team won the Overall Champion in the 26th Hong Kong Joint University Karate Tournament held on 17 April, beating the other nine tertiary institutions.

For team events, the team comprising Poon Pui-yee (Sociology, Year 4), Fong Oi-ling (Accounting, Year 4) and Lau Choi-yan (BBA, Year 2) won the Champion in Team Kata. Fong and Lau also won the Champion in Intermediate Women’s Individual Kata and Intermediate Women’s Kumite (Open) respectively. For other Women’s Team results, Zhang Hanlin (Translation, Year 2) won both the Champion in Junior Women’s Kumite (55kg or below) and Junior Women’s Individual Kata, while Wong Cheuk-lee won the Champion in Senior Women’s Kumite (55kg or above).

The Men’s Team also got excellent results. Chan Ka-wa (Economics, Year 3) and Ng Ka-yip (Psychology, Year 3) have won the Champion in Junior Men’s Kumite (75kg or below) and Intermediate Men’s Kumite (67kg or above) respectively. And Yong Ka-yu (Higher Diploma, Year 1) won the Champion in Junior Men’s Individual Kata.  Other members of Lingnan’s Women’s and Men’s teams also grasped a number of awards in different categories of competitions.
