A strategic cooperation framework agreement was signed between Lingnan University and Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) on 28 January to forge closer ties in areas of academic research, faculty resources collaboration, student exchanges and joint research centre formation in the coming five years.
The agreement was signed by President Leonard K Cheng and SYSU’s Council Chairman Prof Zhang Detao at a ceremony held at Lingnan. Under the cooperation framework, both universities will pursue collaboration on more in-depth research projects on the early days of Lingnan University in Guangzhou, scholars exchange, and explore joint efforts in setting up research centres and grant applications. A broad spectrum of activities covering visit and exchange, case study and sports competitions, and service-learning programmes will also be launched to nurture bonding of students of the two universities.
The Kangle campus of Lingnan University in Guangzhou was given to SYSU when the Mainland’s university system was restructured in 1952. Both President Cheng and Chairman Zhang pointed out in their remarks that the historical legacy of the two universities has drawn them together. The agreement demonstrates once again their commitment to pursue higher-level collaborations and wider scope of academic exchanges.
