An article on the Chinese translation of Ernest Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms by Prof Tong Man of Lingnan’s Department of Translation, as well as Department of Chinese visiting professor Shan Te-hsing’s interview with emeritus professor Joseph Lau Shiu-ming on his experience of literary translation, have been published in the latest issue of Journal of Modern Literature in Chinese.
With Prof Nick Admussen of Cornell University as the guest editor, this issue also presents a special feature of four articles on Lu Xun’s celebrated, though not uncontroversial, collection of prose poetry Wild Grass. These included one from Prof Admussen himself, as well as those by Prof Charles Laughlin of University of Virginia, Prof Mabel Lee from University of Sydney (acclaimed for her translation of Nobel laureate Gao Xingjian’s works), and Prof Roy Chan from University of Oregon. These articles provided an in-depth discussion on Wild Grass from various perspectives. The study on Zhang Ling’s Gold Mountains Blue by Prof Lin Pei-yin of The University of Hong Kong was also published in this issue.
