Chan Tsz-lui and Yung Chun-kit, final year students in History and Social Sciences respectively, have received the “Outstanding Service Award for Tertiary Students 2011-2012” in recognition of their devotion to serving the community.
Organised by the Hong Kong Student Services Association and the Hong Kong Outstanding Tertiary Students’ Services Association, only 20 students from the nine local tertiary institutions were awarded for their excellent track records in volunteer services, extra-curricular activities, as well as academic and leadership achievements.
Both Tsz-lui and Chun-kit have been actively engaged in a wide range of volunteer services. Tsz-lui has been serving at Lingnan’s Cat Society, and assisting several NGOs in organising activities for immigrant children to adapt to life in Hong Kong. Chun-kit was a peer mentor of the Project X service programme, providing guidance and encouragement to young people who have committed offences. He also volunteered to go to remote areas of Guangzhou and Yunnan to teach children. Last year, Chun-kit was selected group leader of volunteers at the 26th Summer Universiade Shenzhen.
