Ningbo Municipal Bureau of Education, Ningbo Digital Library (NDL) and Lingnan University Fong Sum Wood Library co-organised the first-ever “Ningbo-Hong Kong Symposium on Digital Libraries and Innovative Services” on 14 October to further strengthen the exchange and collaboration between Hong Kong and Ningbo libraries.

NDL is the digital library system developed by Ningbo Municipal Bureau of Education to provide an interactive platform for the access to digital resources on diverse topics. Deputy Director of Ningbo Municipal Bureau of Education Mr Hu Chidi said that NDL has maintained a close relationship with Lingnan and the symposium would be an important event to further enhance cooperation for mutual benefit.  President Leonard K Cheng also pointed out that the symposium not only advanced the exchange of digital and innovative services between Hong Kong and Mainland libraries, but also helped explore the challenges and opportunities for nowadays library collections and services.

Some 40 practitioners including Mr Zhao Jihai, Director of the Library, Ningbo Institute of Technology of Zhejiang University; Mr Dong Zhenshi, Director of the Library, Zhejiang Fashion Institute of Technology; Ms Rachel Cheng, Chief Information Officer and Librarian of Lingnan University; and Ms Rebekah Wong, Senior Assistant Librarian of Hong Kong Baptist University participated in the symposium. They discussed and exchange views on hot issues such as “digital library”, “digital resources database”, “digital humanities” and “institutional repository and altmetrics” in the professional sphere.
