Following his assumption of office at Lingnan University on 2 September, President Leonard K Cheng has initiated a number of activities to enhance communication and connection with students, staff and other stakeholders.

At the Official Welcome on 2 September, the first working day of the new academic year, President Cheng extended his warm welcome to almost 1,000 new (including local, non-local and exchange) students and introduced the University’s senior management. He encouraged students to set goals for their university life and work hard towards them. President Cheng expected students to exemplify the fine qualities of Lingnan’s liberal arts education and use what they have learned at Lingnan to contribute to society, making a better future for the world.

On the same day, President Cheng also published his first Letter to Lingnanians (click HERE to read the text), sharing his vision for the University and calling for collaboration and exchange of ideas to build an even better Lingnan. He went on to share these ideas with a wider audience on an RTHK programme Letter to Hong Kong (in Cantonese, click HERE to read the English translation) broadcast on 14 September.

Over the past four weeks, President Cheng has participated in a wide range of activities to engage with students and staff, such as a reception on 9 September as part of the New Staff Orientation Programme, visits to student hostels, three breakfast meetings with students, as well as giving an interview to the University newsletter Chronicle and sharing tea and moon cakes with the Chief Editor, Managing Editors and a student reporter on the day of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
