Research and academic activities

On 7 December, Prof Gary Edson, Professor Emeritus, Center for Advanced Study of Museum Science and Heritage Management, Museum of Texas Tech University, gave a seminar entitled "Assessing the Core Values of Museums in the 21st Century". He said the success of a museum should not be measured just in quantitative terms such as the number of visitors. Many museums are now too consumed with boosting visitors but have forgotten their traditional values, i.e. promoting heritage literacy and encouraging voluntary and self-motivated learning. He called on museum professionals to constantly contemplate who they are, what they do and why they do so, and to ensure that their work can effectively bring education and enjoyment rather than just entertainment to visitors.
