Lingnan University’s Hong Kong Institute of Business Studies and the Hong Kong Management Association co-organised the public seminar “Harnessing the Power of Social Influence” on 23 September.

Four prominent speakers were invited to share their insights on the power of social influence over consumers and merchants at the seminar.  They include Prof Cui Geng, Associate Dean of Business of Lingnan University who presented his research findings on the effect of online reviews on hotel rankings, bookings and occupancy; Mr Luca Deplano, Vice President – Brand Communications of Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts who shared his executive insight about the effect of hotel responses to online reviews; Dr Sebastian Chung, Research Associate, Faculty of Business of Lingnan University and Ms Jan Wong, Managing Director of Openrice who discussed with participants the effect of online reviews on restaurant booking and sales.

About 70 scholars, business executives, members of Hong Kong General Chamber of Small and Medium Business and practitioners of the hotel and catering industries attended the seminar.
