Editors of the respectable Taiwan literary magazine Wenhsun including Dr Feng Te-ping, Dr Yang Zong-han, Dr Tu Hsiou-ching, and Dr Zhan Yu-pei visited Lingnan University’s Centre for Humanities Research on 15 January, and exchanged views with the Centre and a few independent publishers of literature in Hong Kong and Macao on the institution of literary awards and funds for publishing Chinese fiction.

At the meeting, the Centre for Humanities Research introduced the book series of its last General Research Fund project “Hong Kong Literature and Culture of the 1950s” and the books previously published and funded by different parties. Dr Ng Mei-kwan reviewed the hard days of publishing Hong Kong literature in the 1980s and 1990s. Mr Yuen Siu-cheong introduced the experience of running Culture Plus, one of the most successful independent publishers of literature in Hong Kong.  Ms Yu Hei shared with us her editorial experience at the Twilit Publication, and pointed out many problems that hindered the development of independent publishing in Hong Kong. Mr Song Zijiang introduced the flourishing publishers in Macao and their ways of reaching out to foreign markets.
