With the completion of the Shanghai-Hong Kong Future Leaders (Lingnan Elites) Internship Programme organised for the first time from May to July this year, a number of participating students talked about their internship and life experience gained during the seven weeks they spent in Shanghai in a sharing session held on 23 September.
The internship programme is organised by the Hongkong-Shanghai Economic Development Association and co-organised by Lingnan University and the Hong Kong-Shanghai Youth Exchange Promotion Association. The 34 Lingnan students participated in the programme worked as interns in a number of prominent corporations in Shanghai such as Oriental Dreamworks, Shanghai Media Group, and Always (Shanghai) Marketing Services Company Limited, www.eastmoney.com and Touchmedia.
In the sharing session, Mr Andrew Yao, Chairman of the Hongkong-Shanghai Economic Development Association said that during the internship period, he was delighted to see the abilities demonstrated by Lingnan students. He said some participating employers had called to ask if the internship period could be extended, and whether the students could join their companies in future. This is an evidence showing that Hong Kong students’ international outlook and work spirit, as well as Lingnan students’ dedication, is their distinctive edge.
President Leonard Cheng, in the sharing session, pointed out that many participating enterprises operate innovative businesses which can hardly be found in Hong Kong. It is a precious opportunity for students to work in these enterprises, which provides excellent training for them. He encouraged students to apply what they learnt from the programme and plan better for their career in future.
A representative of Always (Shanghai) Marketing Services Company Limited, one of the companies joining the programme, said students had outstanding performance and brought to them a refreshing atmosphere during the internship period. The students were confident, passionate, swift in action and highly motivated, vividly demonstrating the spirit of Hong Kong. This is a very successful internship programme and they wish it can be continued in the future.
A number of students who had joined this year’s programme shared their internship experience during the session. Some of them, who are now employed graduates, said the experience they gained from the internship had helped with their job search, and they were able to apply what they had learnt to their current jobs. All participating students said the internship experience had broadened their horizon. Apart from learning work-related knowledge and business operations, they also made friends with local colleagues and deepened mutual understanding of each other. All these are invaluable to their career and development in the Mainland in future.
