A “Street Music Concert” was held on 11 April 2011 to explore the inter-relationship and synergy between music and poetry. Local and mainland indie musicians performed a diverse range of creative, experimental and socially conscious alternative music at the concert, which was co-organised by the Centre for Humanities Research and Student Services Centre of Lingnan University, Kung Music Workshop and Hong Kong Arts Centre.
Musicians who took part in the concert include local experimental music icon Kung Chi-sing, composer Wong Hin-yan, Cantonese opera diva Tong Siu-yin and a Guangzhou-based band “Wu Tiao Ren” (Five People). The interaction with musicians and poets in the relaxed setting of an outdoor space brought a new kind of concert experience to the audience.
The open air performance was followed by a discussion session participated by local poets including Prof Leung Ping-kwan, Chair Professor of Comparative Literature of the University.
