“The Dialogue of Life” between top Cantopop singer Jacky Cheung and former HKSAR Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Prof Frederick Ma on 3 November attracted a full house audience at the Chan Tak Tai Auditorium of Lingnan University.

The dialogue took place at the second University Assembly of this semester. Jacky answered questions from Prof Ma and students on the floor, sharing his views on life as well as past tribulations and earning great applause from the audience. He recalled the miserable days when his career was at a low ebb, and called on students to do “self-censorship” and “self-reflection” to improve themselves. As opportunities will only come to the hands of people who are prepared, they should work hard to strengthen their capabilities. Using his experience in learning how to dance as an example, he said his efforts over the years had paid off even though he has no innate talent in it. The “God of songs” is still exploring how to improve his singing so as to push himself to do better.

In his concluding speech at the Assembly, President Leonard K Cheng thanked Prof Ma, who had been awarded the degree of Doctor of Social Sciences honoris causa by Lingnan University recently, for inviting his friend Mr Cheung to give such a meaningful talk to students.
