A topping-out ceremony has been held to commemorate the completion of two new student hostels, Wong Hoo Chuen Hall and Wu Jieh Yee Hall, which will provide about 700 hostel places in early 2012.

Distinguished guests who attended the ceremony on 7 September 2011 included the donors, Dr Wong Hoo-chuen and Dr Patrick Wu Po-kong, JP (representative of Wu Jieh Yee Charitable Foundation); Mr Bernard Chan, GBS, JP, Chairman of the University Council; Ms Sophia Kao, SBS, JP, Deputy Chairman of the University Council; Mr Ben Wong Chung-mat, MH, JP, Treasurer of the University Council and Prof Chan Yuk-Shee, President of Lingnan University.

Located on Tuen Kwai Road adjacent to Fu Tai Estate in Tuen Mun, the new hostels are scheduled to be ready for accommodation in early 2012 as part of Lingnan’s preparation for the four-year university system. In addition to the 1,500 existing places, the student accommodation rate of Lingnan University will be increased from 65 per cent to 85 per cent. Even with the double cohorts of students to be admitted in September 2012, Lingnan University will maintain its leading status of student accommodation among local universities.
