On 14 Oct 2012, more than 800 students, alumni, teachers, staff and friends of Lingnan University participated in the third “Walking with Lingnanians” fundraising walkathon 2012. This year, started from Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza and proceeded along Shing Mun River. Around HK$1.3 million was raised in support of the University’s whole-person development programmes.

At its meeting on 15 Oct 2012, the Council of Lingnan University was informed of President Chan Yuk-Shee’s decision to resign his presidency due to his personal and health considerations. President Chan has recovered well from his recent illness; however, he believed it is in the best interest of the University to initiate a search of his successor soon so as to provide a more stable and longer term leadership to the University as it makes its great strides in the implementation of the University’s four-year liberal arts curriculum.

To demonstrate its concern and the importance given to the 2012 admission issues of the Community College at Lingnan University (CCLU) and Lingnan Institute of Further Education (LIFE), as well as to further enhancing the credibility of the inquiry, the Council of Lingnan University has appointed two more members to the Inquiry Panel, expanding the membership from three to five.

On 15 Oct 2012, Lingnan University held the Honorary Fellowship Presentation Ceremony 2012. The Hon Bernard Chan, Chairman of the University Council, conferred honorary fellowships on Mr Ho Hei-wah, BBS; Mr Samuel N Tsien; Dr David Wong Yau-kar, BBS, JP and Mr Lincoln Yung Chu-kuen, JP, in recognition of their valuable contributions to the well-being of the community.

The Lingnan University Archives was officially open on 17 Oct 2012, showcasing the University’s history since 1967 to teachers, students, alumni and the public. The exhibits include photos taken during large-scale events from 1967 to 1999, as well as letters, Presidents’ reports, annual reports, event brochures and the student unions’ publications. All these archival materials are precious artefacts of Lingnan’s 45-year presence in Hong Kong.

On 20 Oct 2012, Lingnan University welcomed over 12,000 visitors, mostly senior secondary students who will sit for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education in 2013 and their parents at the Information Day 2012. The Faculties of Arts, Business and Social Sciences held briefing sessions on their respective admission requirements and curricular structures in 2013/14.

On 25 Oct 2012, Lingnan University held a naming ceremony in appreciation of the generous donation from Mr Chan Wai-nam, BBS, Chairman of Ping Shan Enterprise Company Ltd, by which the Dr Ian Chan Yau Nam Hostel Bursaries were set up. Located on the ground floor of Lingnan’s new campus (near Fu Tai Estate), the Chan Wai Nam Function Hall was built to provide more teaching and learning facilities in line with the needs of the University under the four-year university system.

Registry would like to bring to your attention a programme established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong: the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS), and the details for seeking admission to MPhil/PhD programmes at Lingnan University.

《文化研究@嶺南》第三十期現已出版,專題文章:「國民教育」以外的身份認同。

Authored by research fellows and staff members of the Centre for Humanities Research (CHR), a new book Hong Kong Memories in Cinema has been recently published by the Hong Kong Film Archive.

Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation will launch the 2nd charity walk at Tai Tam Waterworks Heritage Trail on Sunday, 25 November 2012. Donations raised through this event (after deducting expenses) will be used for supporting the operation and the development of the Foundation.
