Lingnan University appointed nine distinguished individuals as Honorary Court Members on 7 Nov 2012 in recognition of their contributions to the University as former Council and/or Court members or to the community at large. An award ceremony for the Honorary Court Members was held at Lingnan Club in Central.

At the 43rd Congregation of Lingnan University on 15 Nov 2012, the Hon Bernard Charnwut Chan, GBS, JP, Chairman of the University Council, conferred honorary doctorates on five distinguished individuals in recognition of their outstanding contributions to education and the well-being of the community. The five recipients are:
- Prof Liu Mingkang, Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa
- Prof Jagdish N Bhagwati, Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa
- Dr John Chan Cho-chak, Doctor of Social Sciences, honoris causa
- The Hon Wong Yan-lung, Doctor of Laws, honoris causa
- Dr Ann Hui On-wah, Doctor of Humanities, honoris causa

On 16 Nov 2012, renowned economists Prof Jagdish N Bhagwati, Prof Lawrence J Lau, Prof Sir James A Mirrlees and Executive Council member Mrs Laura Cha Shih May-lung shared their insights on the opportunities and challenges of the Chinese economy at a luncheon discussion co-organised by Lingnan University and the Asia Society Hong Kong Center. The event was honoured to have an opening address by Financial Secretary Mr John Tsang Chun-wah.
