為讓校友可以身體力行,活出嶺大校訓「作育英才‧服務社會」(Education for Service),幫助社會上有需要的人,校友事務組於2012年8月成立「嶺大校友義工隊」,並於11月24日舉辦了首個活動「與『童』同行」。當天,共有約20名義工參與活動,與15個來自「庭恩兒童中心」(Benji's Centre)的受助家庭在嶺大校園渡過了快樂的一天。

2012122日,「嶺大校友義工隊」又再出擊。當日,34位義工一同出發前往粉嶺綠田園基金鶴藪有機農場,響應義工隊第二次活動 「洛神暖聖誕」。大夥兒先在農場中採摘本地栽種的有機洛神葵果實,然後即席製作成果醬。當日天氣縱然寒冷,但仍無損義工熾熱的心,竭力將二千朵洛神葵果實製作成50瓶美味的果醬。完成後,大隊再出發前往青衣,一同將這份暖暖的心意送贈明愛樂和宿舍的住宿人士。能夠將成果直接送到受助人士的手上,一眾義工都感到特別有意義,在寒意中感到絲絲暖意。

At the invitation of Lingnan University, former Deputy Foreign Minister of Israel Dr Yossi Beilin spoke on “From Oslo Accord to Agreement between the State of Israel and the Palestinian Authority” on 7 November.

Prof Ma Yau-woon was invited by Lingnan’s Department of Chinese to speak on the history and authenticity of the Qing court’s Japan-made Chung Shan Gunboat on 10 November.

11 November, 2012

The annual “Tin Ka Ping Mainland Scholars and Senior Administrators Exchange Programme” was held on 11-17 November on campus.

13 November, 2012

Mr Raymond Tong, CEO of Pacific Coffee, shared with Lingnan students his experience in corporate management as the guest speaker of the Lions Club of Metropolitan Hong Kong Business & Career Mentoring Forum 2012 held on 13 November.

A group of philosophy students participated in a service-learning programme at the Catholic Sustainable Garden of Joy in Yuen Long, whereby they contemplated the relationship between man and nature under capitalism, and Hong Kong’s development which allows commerce to take precedence over agriculture.

Independent filmmaker Evans Chan and Lingnan’s Distinguished Adjunct Professor of Sociology and Social Policy Prof Liah Greenfeld were invited to discuss on 26 November the concepts of race and nationalism as presented in a popular Chinese TV drama seriesToward the Republic.

28 November, 2012

Sketches by students who have completed the course “Understanding drawing” were put on display at an exhibition in the Leung Fong Oi Wan Art Gallery on campus on 28 November.

Lingnan University held a dinner reception for 2011/12 academic honours recipients on 30 October in recognition of their excellent academic performance.

14 November, 2012

“South Boys” of Lingnan University won the 1st runner-up prize at the Diamond Sedan Competition held on 14 November at Stanley Plaza.

16 November, 2012

President Chan Yuk-Shee was conferred the degree of Doctor of Laws honoris causa at the 20th Congregation of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology on 16 November.

20 November, 2012

Lingnan University Men’s Basketball Team came fourth in an inter-college competition held by Chinese weekly New Monday on 20 November at Southorn Stadium, Wan Chai.

Scholarships

Chevening Scholarships are the UK Government's global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and partner organisations. They are awarded to future leaders to study for a fully funded one-year Master's degree at the UK's top universities.  

Applicants should have completed at least two years of work or equivalent experience by 30 September 2012. Deadline for application is 2 January 2013.
