In Memory of Professor Leung Ping-kwan

Lingnan University records with deep sadness the passing of Professor Leung Ping-kwan (Yesi), Chair Professor of Comparative Literature of the Department of Chinese and Director of the Centre for Humanities Research, on 5 January 2013. Alumni are kindly invited to join the Respect Paying Session on 14 January 2013 and the Memorial Service on 20 January 2013.

On 10 Jan 2013, the Inquiry Panel appointed by the Council of Lingnan University to inquire into and review the operations of the Community College at Lingnan University (CCLU) and Lingnan Institute of Further Education (LIFE) in the admission exercise for 2012-13 released its findings and recommendations.

Walking into the Artist’s Studio, visitors are amazed by what the students have accomplished in a semester-long photography course. The collective body of work exhibited is an exploration of a wide array of themes based on each student’s personal interests.

Lingnan University’s Centre for Humanities Research held the Hong Kong Literature and Culture of the 1950s Seminar Series (12) and (13) on 7 and 18 December respectively.

More than 70 historians from mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan attended a two-day conference on the history of the Song Dynasty (960-1127) organised by Lingnan’s Department of History on 8-9 December.

Dr Karen Fang, Associate Professor of Department of English, University of Houston, was invited by the Centre for Cinema Studies of Lingnan University to share her insights on cinema and the Hong Kong police on 12 December.

13 December, 2012

An exhibition titled “ArtStorm” was held at the Leung Fong Oi Wan Art Gallery on campus on 13-16 December, showcasing more than 30 pieces of artwork made by students of a digital imaging course at Lingnan University.

Renowned economists around the world attended the 7th Biennial Conference of the Hong Kong Economic Association held at Lingnan campus on 13-14 December.

Awards and Achievements
25 November, 2012

Lingnan University’s Lion Dance and Martial Arts Team won an outstanding prize at the Hong Kong Open Dragon and Lion Dance Competition held at the Kowloon Park Sports Centre on 25 November.

Year 2012 marks an eye-opening journey for our Visual Studies fresh graduate Kasey Wong, who is currently doing an MA in Film Studies at the University of Kent with a Jackie Chan Charitable Foundation Postgraduate Scholarship.

New Publications

A new biography of Dr Robin Y H Chan written by Dr Lau Chi-pang, associate professor of history, has been published.

The 32nd volume of “Cultural Studies@Lingnan” is now published.
