A “Summer Workshop on Cinema and Human Rights” was held on 13-16 May by Lingnan’s Centre for Cinema Studies, in its first collaboration with the Huston School of Film & Digital Media, National University of Ireland, Galway.

Entitled “Creativity Engage!”, an exhibition of artwork by secondary students with special education needs was held at the Leung Fong Oi Wan Art Gallery of Lingnan University from 27 May to 1 June.

A delegation from the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong paid a visit to Lingnan University on 4 June.

Scholars of Lingnan University were invited to share insights at the pre-show talk on “Tong Dik-sang’s mid-phase works: Lonely Moonlight on a Cold Bed”, organised by the Chinese Artists Association of Hong Kong for the Cantonese Opera Young Talents Showcase, on 5 June.
Trustees and staff of Lingnan Foundation came to Lingnan on 6 June to learn about the funding needs of the University and the progress of the sponsored programmes.

International artist and educator Prof Caren Cunningham shared her artwork at an exhibition entitled “Identity” at the Leung Fong Oi Wan Art Gallery of Lingnan University on 8-23 June. According to Prof Cunningham, identity is a dialogue between personal perception and cultural norms. By interpreting hair samples and graffiti letters in her artwork, she hopes to provide a platform for visitors to reconsider identity and expression.

On 15 June, Lingnan’s Centre for Humanities Research (CHR) and Hong Kong Public Libraries co-organised the June 2013 session of the monthly literary salon on “A Long Nostalgic Night: Li Kuang and His Works”.

A visiting team from the Research Grants Council (RGC) came to Lingnan University on 20 June to get to know more about its academic research development and activities. The 40-member team was led by RGC Chairman Prof Benjamin W Wah and University Grants Committee (UGC) Assistant Secretary-General (Research) Mrs Alice Sham.

Lingnan University has won the 3rd runner-up prize in the 9th Chinese Universities Shakespeare Festival Performance Finals, out of 12 finalists among 48 teams from Hong Kong, Macao, mainland China and Taiwan. The Festival was jointly organised by the Department of English and the Office of the Arts Administrator, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

Dr Sophia Law, Associate Professor of Department of Visual Studies and Dr Tingting Chen, Assistant Professor of Department of Management, were honoured with the Lingnan University “Education for Service” Faculty Award at the Opening Ceremony of the 4th Asia-Pacific Regional Conference on Service-Learning held on 5 June. As Dr Chen was on leave, Director of Business Programmes Prof Robin Snell received the award on behalf of her.

Twenty-one outstanding Lingnan business students were invited to be lifetime members of the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) at the 2nd Induction Ceremony of the Lingnan University Chapter of BGS on 28 June. They came from Bachelor in Business Administration, MPhil in Business, Master of Accountancy and MSc in Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour programmes.

UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) announced the launch of a new venture aimed at boosting Britain’s community of young entrepreneurs with global ambitions. The Entrepreneur Festival will offer final year students (BA/BSc level, Masters or Research degree programmes) and recent graduates from universities around the world an intensive induction into what it’s like to be a young entrepreneur in the UK.
